Functional Testing

As a functional medicine practice focused on brain health, we oftentimes see patients that just feel “not quite right” – where there is no one dominant symptom that can point us in the right direction.  Examples can range from fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, insomnia, low mood, decreased libido, irritability, inability to focus or some combination of these symptoms.

Beyond exploring possible lifestyle factors to identify the root cause of chronic brain symptoms, we frequently use advanced functional testing that can provide valuable information. Not everyone with the same symptoms will have the same root cause for their symptoms.

The test results help guide your treatment recommendations in major ways – allowing for an individualized approach unique to your situation, genetics, and biochemistry.

Brain Panel

The Beautiful Brain Health panel is comprised of serum biomarkers that have been hand-picked to  evaluate for some of the most common “root causes” of brain dysfunction. This panel includes evaluation of hormones, nutritional deficiencies, and inflammation markers. It is the most comprehensive test of its kind. This bloodwork may be drawn by a concierge phlebotomist in your home at a time that is convenient for you.

Cambridge Brain Sciences

This is a computerized neurocognitive test that  is administered in the comfort and convenience of your own home. It is a valuable clinical screening instrument which evaluates and monitors your brain function over time.  The CDC healthy brain initiative recommends starting with this type of brain testing at age 45 and repeating the test every year.

The DUTCH test (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) is a very informative test when evaluating hormone and adrenal function.  This test is easily collected at home and the results  provide valuable information about your adrenal function throughout the day.  Your sex hormones and detoxification pathways are tested along with several organic acids related to neurotransmitters.
